The Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil has now shared that a telecommunications pilot project using LEO (Low-Earth Orbit) satellites will be implemented by the middle of next year, 2025.
Through the use of this technology, it is aimed for telecommunication services to be channeled and transmitted directly to the user's device, without the need to go through telecommunication towers. This step will facilitate the increase of telecommunication access, especially in rural areas where it is difficult to build telecommunication towers.
For now, it is not known which company will be selected for this pilot project. Starlink was previously ready to start an experiment for a direct beam project from the satellite to the user's device, called "Direct-To-Cell", allowing users to stay connected when in rural areas, especially for emergency purposes.
