NADMA Now Creates a Flood Early Warning System Through SMS

The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has now announced collaboration with telecommunication companies in establishing a flood early warning system through SMS support. With this measure, residents in an area predicted to be at risk of flooding will receive early warning, allowing residents to take precautions or move to a safer area.

NADMA said among the telecommunication companies that cooperated are CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM, YTL, Time, DNB, XOX, Tune Talk, redOne, BeONE, and Valyou. All of these telecommunications companies will bear the cost of this SMS as part of their respective social responsibilities.

Under this collaboration, telecommunications companies will receive advance notice from the National Disaster Control Center which operates 24 hours a day. Next, SMS announcements will be made in a targeted manner to residents in areas facing the risk of flooding.

NADMA also stated that this flood awareness collaboration will continue throughout the year, and is not limited to the North East Monsoon only. In addition to SMS, users can also check the disaster situation through the NADMA Disaster Portal.
