There is a popular theory called the “dead internet theory” that says the majority of interactions on the internet today are fake and are done by bots. If you are a hardcore LinkedIn user, a recent study seems to confirm this theory as it claims that over 54% of long content in English on this site is written by artificial intelligence (AI).
According to a Wired report, the company Originality AI, which offers AI content detection services, scanned 8,795 statuses on LinkedIn that were longer than 100 words between January 2018 and October 2024. Initially, the use of AI was very small. Immediately after ChatGPT was launched in 2023, a sharp increase in statuses written by AI began to be detected, reaching 189%.
This may be used by users to hone their work that when read sounds more professional using AI. It is also used by those who are not very fluent in English to avoid grammatical and vocabulary errors. In short, the use of AI to do writing is now the new norm.
