Ozempic Has Been Found to Cause the Heart Muscle to Shrink

Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy are the sales names for the drug semaglutide which is seen as a miracle cure for diabetes, obesity and even addiction. Several previous studies have praised the positive effects of semaglutide on the human body. But the latest study from the University of Alberta has now found that it also has a negative impact on the heart muscle.

Semaglutide was given to laboratory rats that were suffering from obesity as well as thinness. The rat's heart muscle was later found to shrink. Then the same test was performed on human heart cells and again muscle attenuation was detected.

Researchers now warn that the long-term effects of semaglutide use on human heart muscle cells need to be done. Many users may not realize that taking this drug may cause cardiovascular problems after using it for a certain period of time.

The results of this University of Alberta study are in line with another previous study which found that up to 40% of the weight lost by those taking semaglutide was in the form of muscle and not just fat. It can also increase the risk of blindness. The study was published in the journal Science Direct.
