Snapchat Adds New Location Sharing And Safety Features Through Family Center

Snapchat Family Center allows parents to monitor their children's social media usage activities. Snapchat also updated it by announcing new location sharing and security features, which also provide more parental control functions to protect children from the risks of uncontrolled internet use.

Through it parents can now request the location of their children directly through a new button in the Family Center. It also makes it easy for parents to share their location back to make sure everyone is informed of each other's whereabouts once they opt-in. This location sharing feature is also always turned off by default, and there is no option to share with someone who is not a contact in the Snapchat app.

In addition parents can also view some of the children's privacy and safety settings, and soon they will also have access to location sharing options. This allows parents to follow their children's progress including being aware of contacts who can see their location on Snap Maps.

Snapchat also added a travel notification function for a number of locations such as home, school or gym. Next, it allows parents to always be informed about the children's whereabouts, including when they arrive at class, or when they return home after playing with friends. This feature is designed to improve the safety of children wherever they are to avoid being targeted by criminals.

For those who choose to share their location with all contacts, Snapchat will introduce an additional reminder function to check the application settings when there are new friends added outside of their usual. All of these new features will roll out in the coming weeks, and Snapchat is encouraging users to provide feedback.
