Four years ago Sony entered the drone arena for photography with the introduction of the Airpeak S1. At launch it was a drone specifically designed to be used with their digital cameras. But last week Sony announced that sales of the Airpeak S1 drone will be discontinued from March 2025.
In addition to drones, sales of gimbal parts, transmitters, battery chargers, battery packs, radio kits, and fans have also been discontinued. Sales of additional fans and batteries will only be extended until March 2025 with customer support provided only until March 2030.
At the time of launch, the Sony Airpeak S1 was able to fly at speeds of up to 90km/h and aimed at professional users. But with a selling price starting at $9000 apiece, it is less popular because there are more capable products produced by DJI.
