Three years ago, Google came up with a camera algorithm to process images with more inclusive colors for dark-skinned people. A year later, Google introduced the Monk Skin Tone Scale to avoid the problem of bias in AI processing. This year, Tecno came with their own algorithm.
This is not the first time a Chinese device manufacturer has come up with a feature like this, but it is a first for Tecno. Tecno has come up with Universal Tone technology developed based on a database for 268 different skin tones. This technology is said to be developed along with the science of skin tone.
Tecno also comes with a special website 268toneproud.com that uses the device's camera to scan the color of your skin tone. The results of the analysis can then be shared to Instagram or shared directly to the Tone Proud gallery.
