The Call of Duty series has sold more than 500 million units since it was first produced in 2003. Activision Blizzard announced this latest sales figure at the same time as the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 this week which also recorded the highest number of players ever recorded by the series.
The figures announced today do not include the sales of Black Ops 6. However, it still manages to place the Call of Duty (COD) series as the second highest selling video game series behind the Mario series which has sold over 880 million units since 1981. COD is now trailing by Tetris (495 million), Pokemon (480 million), GTA (430 million), Minecraft (350 million) and FIFA (325 million).
This record sales and high number of players is one of the reasons why Microsoft will take over Activision Blizzard in 2022 for $69 billion.
