The summit of Mount Fuji finally returned to snow yesterday in line with the forecast made by the Japan Meteorological Department. This makes it the date on which Japan's highest mountain began to snow since records were taken. We previously reported that for the first time in 130 years, the summit of Fuji was snow-free at the end of October.
This year Japan recorded the highest summer temperature in history. This is believed to be the reason why the summit of Fuji does not have snow when it normally does in early October. Global climate change contributed to this incident as well as the extraordinary flooding in Spain and two of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded in the Southern United States.
