The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) today issued a temporary ban on the use of electrical sockets in express buses. This drastic step was taken following the incident of an 18-year-old passenger who died due to electric shock while trying to charge a smartphone.
The ban will only come into effect until a special task force report on the shock issue is done and after getting advice from the Energy Commission. This incident indirectly also raises concerns about the use of electric sockets in other transport vehicles such as airplanes and trains.
However, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) has given assurances that the issue will not have an impact on other transport services as the use of charging sockets has been subject to different standards. Only the use of electric sockets in express bus transport does not have a fixed standard.
