The use of three-pin electrical sockets and also USB plugs in buses is now banned immediately in all buses in Malaysia. This decision was announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke today according to a Bernama report.
Before this, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) only gave orders to temporarily ban the use of electric sockets in express buses. The directive has now been extended to all buses and also involves USB plugs that passengers use to charge devices.
The risks of using electrical outlets gained attention after the death of an 18-year-old student due to electrocution earlier this month. According to Loke, the installation of electrical wiring by non-certified parties is one of the causes of shock incidents in buses. Unlike in airplanes and trains, there are no specific standards for electrical socket wiring systems in buses in Malaysia.
