My50 is a 30-day unlimited use pass for LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT and RapidKL bus. As of today there are around 220,000 monthly active users compared to 2019 which only had 98,000. The use of this pass is limited to MyKad and by the year 2025, all this will change.
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, many users report that they worry about taking out their MyKad every time they want to use public transport. Therefore, in order to continue the mission of revolutionizing the country's digital public transport system - the use of My50 will be expanded to smartphones, QR code scans and even Touch 'n Go cards.
This means that users are no longer limited to buying My50 passes using cash or directly deducting the TnG balance in MyKad. The use of MyKad is imposed because we want to limit the purchase of My50 to Malaysians only. But for this new method, it is still unclear whether it will be open to all or will remain only for the people. Anyway, when this report was written there is still no fixed date when the alternative method of using My50 will be introduced in 2025, let's all look forward to it.
