Threads Algorithm Now Focuses on Showing Content from Accounts You Follow

Yesterday, Threads enabled a Custom Feed feature for all users that allows them to create a timeline that only displays posts from specific accounts. This is the same feature as the Lists timeline that exists in X. Recently, Instagram head Adam Mosseri also announced another feature that has been enabled.

On Threads, the content recommendation algorithm will now focus on content shared by accounts that users follow. The display of content recommendations from accounts that are not followed will be reduced. This is to balance the reach of posts for the benefit of content creators and Meta.

In my opinion, this feature is clearly intended to lure back users who have fled Threads and gone to Bluesky which now has over 20 million users. This new feature will make Threads seem more caring to users by increasing the display of content that is truly interesting.
