Cyberbullying, scam or defamation culture is a real cyber threat, including in Malaysia. It can be done through text, image or video for the purpose of embarrassing, deceiving or humiliating someone. As a result, a person can experience depression, sadness and even lose interest in daily activities.
This shows that this matter needs to be addressed and TikTok guarantees to examine some issues that exist on the platform in question, especially regarding the issue of cyber bullying, the threat of scams and defamation that are becoming more prevalent, including in Malaysia. It was stated by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew in a meeting with the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) conference on Thursday.
Commenting further, Anwar said that Tiktok gave assurances to look closely at the existing problems, besides committing to work with various stakeholders such as the Ministry of Communications, MCMC and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to overcome the trend of abuse in its platform.
In addition, the meeting also discussed potential cooperation between the government and TikTok Malaysia. As a result, large-scale investment is expected to enter Malaysia later, in addition to that, TikTok also voiced its full support for Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chairman in 2025.
