The Realme GT 7 Pro is one of the first smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. It is not the first in the world but has been confirmed to be the first for the global market as well as in Malaysia. Is the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with Oryon CPU the same for the chip on the computer capable of making this Realme GT 7 Pro a new mobile gaming console?
The answer is no. It may not be a replacement for mobile consoles but it has the potential to be the most powerful flagship device in history. Realme has brought features that have always been offered by competitors, but packed them all in a common flagship device package. It's not for gaming, it's not for photography but balanced for all the owner's needs.
Benchmark
GT 7 Pro is the first Android device in front of my eyes that can produce the highest benchmark score s. In the AnTuTu 3D, Geekbench 6, Geekbench AI and even 3DMark tests, the device displayed unexpected scores. Gaming Performance
For the initial test, we tried playing old AAA games that were already supported on Android devices. The game I chose is GTA San Andreas which is free to play if you have a Netflix account.
What is surprising is the consistent game graphics, looks beautiful and all movements are smooth. Since it's not a lager, performance is fast and there aren't any lag issues. This is not surprising because the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip also has no problem playing GTA San Andreas, only after 10 minutes of playing, the realme GT 7 Pro still does not heat up, otherwise the device with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in this situation will start to feel warm.
For games developed specifically for Android devices, Call of Duty Warzone and PUBG Mobile also do not cause any heating problems after two to three match sessions. If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 device I say is good at handling the heat of the device, this Snapdragon 8 Elite is still stuck in a room with the air conditioner on 24 hours.
Both Call of Duty Warzone and PUBG Mobile use the highest quality graphics settings. Both have consistent 60FPS movement throughout gaming sessions. CPU and GPU usage based on System Status information through gaming mode also displays efficient power usage.
Games like PUBG Mobile have the option to overclock the CPU and GPU, providing extra power beyond the normal capabilities of GT mode. This mod causes the game to try to run at a consistent 70FPS rate while using AI to ensure the graphics quality remains beautiful as well.
The Realme GT 7 Pro also comes with the GameHub application that can be used together with the Gamesir X3 Pro controller. This application is like a gaming hub offered on mobile consoles or controllers such as Backbone and Razer. It's just a pity that the majority of streaming AAA games offered on this app cannot be played in Malaysia. I also didn't test it because the game streaming platform can also be played smoothly on mid-range devices.
What's interesting is that GameHub can also help control device performance such as in terms of heat management with the built-in fan on Gamesir. I hope these controls are more stable and available in English or Malay when the realme GT 7 Pro goes on sale.
So far, the realme GT 7 Pro has yet to become a mobile gaming console. As long as there aren't modern AAA games for Android devices like the developers are offering the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16, Android flagships are stuck with a limited selection of AAA games.
It's not because the device isn't capable of running it or isn't powerful enough, but it depends on the video game developers themselves. After using the GT 7 Pro for a week, I can say that it is now comfortably in the list of the most powerful devices of 2024 and not just in the flagship gaming device category.
Various startups can be run at high settings quite comfortably without heating issues on other devices we tested. Looking ahead, Qualcomm says there has been a commitment by the first manufacturer in the future to offer AAA games with Unreal Engine 5 technology on devices with Snapdragon 8 Elite. This means that when this first one is launched later, Realme GT 7 Pro will not have any issues to run it.
