TSMC Staff Offered Triple Salary If Moved To Huawei

Huawei is subject to various technological restrictions that prevent them from accessing chips produced by Qualcomm, Intel and AMD. Then their own chip technology was hindered by no longer being able to use TSMC's foundry or purchase ASML's chip manufacturing equipment. So the only way to stay competitive is to develop the chip technology yourself at an urgent rate.

According to a Le Monde report, Huawei is now trying to hire TSMC staff by offering them three times the salary they currently receive. This is expected to narrow the technology gap for Huawei to offer high-performance chips again.

The latest Kirin 9010 chip used in the Pura70 series still uses 7nm technology while the mid-range Android chip has already changed to the much more advanced 4nm technology. Even if many TSMC employees migrate to Huawei, it does not mean that Huawei will be able to accelerate the development of chips with 3nm technology quickly. This is because TSMC's industry secrets are not held by a single employee with a breakdown of skills.

Next, without the latest NA EUV ASML machines, the process of producing 3nm chips (and smaller ones) will not be possible because the same technology is not produced by local Chinese companies.
