A few weeks ago, Microsoft announced that they were building an app store for the Android platform that would allow users to buy and play games through the Xbox app.
The feature is reportedly already built, and could be introduced to the Xbox app, but for now it seems Microsoft will have to put that on hold because a US court has postponed a decision to allow other companies to open their own app stores on the Android platform.
A US court has previously ordered Google to allow companies like Epic Games to open their own app stores with payment gateways that are not tied to the Google Play Store. The Epic Games Store is already available in European Union countries, and recently, Microsoft seems to want to do the same in the United States.
A Microsoft executive confirmed that the store is complete, but for now it is just waiting for a court order to release the update. Microsoft previously said the feature would be available in November 2024.
Microsoft previously tried to introduce the xCloud game streaming feature but only offered it on web browsers for both Android and iOS platforms due to issues with the game app store.
For now, the Microsoft Xbox app store functionality appears to be limited to the United States market for now, and it is not yet known if it will be introduced in other markets.
