XR Headset By Samsung To Be Launched Early Next Year

Samsung hinted that it would launch its augmented reality (XR) headset earlier in the year at the Galaxy Unpacked Samsung Galaxy S24 event. The launch of this headset developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm has been delayed after seeing the launch of the Vision Pro. Samsung then did not share any new information about it until announcing the financial report for Q3 2024 yesterday.

Samsung has now confirmed that this XR headset will be launched early next year and most likely at the same time as the Galaxy S25 series. It is understood that the design of this headset is similar to Meta Quest 3 and not like Vision Pro. This is to reduce the cost of sales after seeing what happened to the Vision Pro a few months after launch.

Google will provide a special section for VR, AR and XR applications in the Play Store. Qualcomm is now producing some specific chips for headsets that are also used by Meta. The question now is whether there is still a market for XR headsets when the reception since the Galaxy Gear VR era has been less encouraging.
