YouTube Says Premium Subscribers Shouldn't Be Served Ads

YouTube Premium is a paid subscription plan that is now getting more and more expensive. It offers ad-free YouTube access, audio can play in the background, Shorts has a picture-in-picture display, and subscribers will also receive various other rewards. Recently viral, even subscribed YouTube still shows ads.

This ad is seen by Premium subscribers in the United States where YouTube serves NFL ticket promotions. Prior to that, Google service ads were also displayed to YouTube Premium subscribers. More disappointingly, after users reported this – YouTube only responded “Promotional ads may occasionally appear from certain advertiser partners or limited time offers.”

In a YouTube statement reported by 9to5Google, they stated that Premium subscribers should not be served ads. All rewards or offers for Premium customers can be accessed through the Premium Benefits page instead of being displayed on the main page or in the video. Premium Benefits rewards are mostly limited to certain countries with customers in Malaysia only able to enjoy exclusive music video content.

In our review, YouTube Premium subscribers in Malaysia have so far not reported the issue of displayed ads. How about you?
