The technology war between China and the United States continued today with the US Department of Commerce adding 140 more Chinese companies to the entity list. The Chinese technology company was added to the entity list because it is believed to be involved in attempts to circumvent existing sanctions and is involved with Huawei.
In addition, the sale of HBM memory is now also subject to restrictions to prevent it from being used in Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Among the companies that produce HBM are Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix.
As is well known, the sale of AI chips to China has been blocked since last year to prevent it from being used for military purposes and to prevent China from having capabilities comparable to the US. Several memory production equipment have also been subject to similar restrictions.
To reduce this technology gap, Huawei is reportedly willing to pay triple the salary of ASML, TSMC and Zeiss employees to relocate. The dispute between China and the US will become even hotter after President-elect Donald Trump promised to impose additional tariffs on China.
