The use of under-screen fingerprint scanners has become a common thing in the smartphone arena. This year, ultrasonic sensors have finally been used by many manufacturers. Coming soon, Google will introduce a new screen unlock feature that has long been present on various Chinese devices.
This version of Google is for Android 16 and also Pixel devices, where for the first time this feature will be built natively into the Android development code. This feature is to scan your fingerprint to unlock the device when the screen is off. It already exists on several devices from Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Tecno and many more.
This feature may not be very important to some users, but for me it is very useful because it is faster. It is also different from unlocking the device when the screen is in Always-on mode. This feature allows users to unlock the device as if it were the days of physical scanners on the back or side of the device, where the screen is off but can be unlocked with a finger directly touching/pressing the built-in scanner.
