Apple Cancels Plans for iPhone Subscription Plan

More than two years ago, rumors surfaced that Apple would introduce an iPhone subscription plan. Under the plan, customers would receive the latest iPhone model each time it was released for a monthly fee. But according to Mark Gurman for Bloomberg, Apple is no longer pursuing the plan.

This is due to concerns about regulatory concerns, software bugs and other issues. The team that was developing the subscription service has been disbanded and reassigned to other projects.

There are some die-hard fans who will upgrade to the latest model even if their old devices are still in good condition. With global smartphone sales falling last year and expected to repeat themselves this year, subscription services could be a sales catalyst.
