Apple Considers Bringing Cellular Support to MacBooks – The Result of Developing Its Own Modem

Apple is said to be developing its own modem, thus reducing its dependence on third parties such as Qualcomm. The Apple-developed modem is expected to be used for the first time in the iPhone SE which will be launched next year, 2025.

In parallel with its use in the iPhone SE, Apple is expected to gradually expand the use of its own developed modem on future iPhones. Interestingly, according to Bloomberg, the development of this own modem is also expected to make Apple bring cellular support to the Mac and also the Vision Pro.

The Apple-developed modem is said to be smaller in size compared to Qualcomm's offerings, and at the same time uses less battery power. This is also expected to allow Apple to develop a thinner iPhone design.

Apple is said to be considering the idea of cellular integration in the Mac – thus allowing users to stay connected even if they do not have a Wi-Fi connection on their respective computers. However, if this idea continues, we may see Macs with cellular support after 2026 through their second-generation modem.
