Apple Executive Involved in Apple Silicon Development Among Intel's New CEO Candidates

Last week, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger unexpectedly retired. He was reportedly given the ultimatum to retire or be fired. This is because Intel's board of directors has lost confidence in Gelsinger since he became CEO in 2021. Intel has suffered various misfortunes and is falling behind competitors such as Apple Silicon or Qualcomm chips. Recently, the shortlisted new CEO candidates have been revealed.

According to Bloomberg, Apple executive Johny Srouji, who serves as vice president of hardware technology, is among the shortlisted candidates. Srouji is responsible for the development of Apple Silicon chips. He has served since 2008 to make the Apple A4 chip in the iPhone 4 and the first-generation iPad a success and also reports to John Ternus, senior vice president of hardware engineering.

This is not the first time Intel has wanted Srouji. He was selected after Brian Krzanich stepped down as Intel CEO in 2018. However, at that time, he was still busy making the Apple Silicon chip a success. It is still uncertain whether Srouji will accept this position. Apple will soon come up with its own 5G modem and new products for home Internet of Things devices. Let's all stay tuned.
