Since last year, more and more social media platforms like X or the former name Twitter have been introduced. Some are open source under the Fediverse platform, there are also copies of X such as Threads. The latest in Malaysia is Daun, another social media platform that wants to compete with X.
Through Daun, you can see that it offers an interface that doesn't feel awkward because it has been using more or less the same design - especially on the web. On the mobile app, Daun uses a floating control bar that looks modern and neat. Daun uses terms from plants such as Dedaun for other accounts you follow and Pokok for accounts from various other users.
Daun also has a special segment for news that only displays authentic sources such as Sukanz, Tajria, Aksiz and many more to come. Daun also makes it easy for users to find other content that has been shared. If there is something you like, Daun also supports Bookmarks for you to refer back to the sharing earlier.
In my review, there is also a feature that will be added, namely Rumpun, which may be a community or group feature on X or Facebook Groups. The use is also still basic with each share only being able to include a picture and a link. Then user interaction is limited to comments, reshares and tags but no likes.
Daun also still does not support audio, video sharing and also no subscriptions. I also noticed that Daun does not display ads. For a short use, I was a bit surprised that a lot of the content shared is from Malaysian users. If you are tired of toxic X, Facebook with a lot of fake news and Threads with ridiculous reach – Daun is a good platform for you to try.
