The public, including Malaysians, will soon be able to enjoy passport-free clearance at both land checkpoints (Tuas and Woodlands), as well as at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS), starting 16 December 2024.
This passport-free clearance is done in the form of the implementation of QR code immigration lanes at bus terminals for all types of transport at land checkpoints. Where all bus passengers can use the QR code clearance at the bus terminal, thus reducing the average clearance time to a shorter time. However, foreign visitors visiting Singapore for the first time will still need to show their passports. Where they can only use this QR code for subsequent trips. Currently, it is still being implemented in phases with full implementation expected to be completed by mid-January 2025.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) has implemented the QR code rollout for car drivers on 19 March 2024, bus drivers on 15 April 2024, motorcyclists on 15 August 2024, and cargo vehicle drivers and escort assistants on 30 August 2024. As of 1 December 2024, nearly 28 million tourists have used QR codes to enter Singapore at land checkpoints.
