Google Maps May Use Your Dashcam Recordings to Update Mapping Data

Dashcams or car recorders are now becoming increasingly popular. People started using them after realizing that they are important for personal safety. Then with MIROS, they started recognizing the best recorders with various options from the cheapest to the premium ones. Most recently, Google Maps may use data from your car recorders to improve their mapping system.

According to Google, they are working with several car recorder manufacturers who collect and store user recording data. The data taken is a short silent video and then with artificial intelligence technology, information from the video will be released such as new information about road sizes, newly installed signs, changes to road speed limits and others.

Google also stated that this recording will also be handled by their operations team. Each video will only be used on the Google Maps system that should be updated. Maybe a newly completed shortcut, but not last year or maybe even a new highway route.

Google stated that each video will not be shared to any platform and from whom they have received permission for the video. The videos are also only those related to public roads and those that show new locations that are not on Google Maps.
