Nowadays, there are many modern technology conglomerates that are in a race to build the greatest artificial intelligence model that can be used by the public on a large scale.
It can be said that the combination of OpenAI and Microsoft is currently the best AI technology developer and the closest to achieving the dream of developing Artificial General Intelligence technology.
Google recently seems to have asked the US government to cancel the collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI. In the existing collaboration, Microsoft is the first company to be able to utilize the artificial intelligence technologies developed by OpenAI, while OpenAI can use the Microsoft Azure infrastructure to develop new artificial intelligence technologies.
According to Google, the issue with this collaboration is that if there are other technology companies that want to use OpenAI's artificial intelligence technology, they will have to invest in knowledge of the cloud technology stack and Microsoft Azure servers.
If OpenAI's technology were hosted on different server infrastructures such as Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services, companies would have a much greater choice to utilize the AI technology more easily.
Meanwhile, if companies are not already using Microsoft Azure's server or cloud technology stack, attempting to use OpenAI's technology will further increase the company's IT expenses.
Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant, is also built using the ChatGPT-4o language model developed by OpenAI, and as OpenAI develops its own artificial intelligence technology, Microsoft is seen as the first company to take advantage of it due to its investment in OpenAI.
Currently, the Federal Trade Commission is reportedly investigating Microsoft regarding their operations and it is not yet known whether they will take notice of this matter.
Interestingly, Google is also currently facing antitrust issues of their own where the US government wants Alphabet, Google's parent company, to separate Android, Play Store and Chrome to avoid industry monopoly issues.
