HDMI 2.2 to be introduced next month – supports multiple resolutions and high refresh rates

HDMI 2.1 is a new generation of video and audio display connection cable. Although it was launched in 2017, its use is still not widespread. The same goes for HDMI 2.1a which arrived 2 years ago. Coming in 2025, a new version will be introduced.

According to the HDMI Forum, next month, January 2025 – HDMI 2.2 will be launched. This new HDMI standard is said to support more high resolution options and various refresh rate settings. This means that HDMI connections from now on will no longer be limited to 48Gbps, 10240 x 4320 and 120Hz bandwidth connections.

The HDMI Forum is also expected to remain using the HDMI connection and not switch to USB-C. Although USB-C already supports video input/output, its support will remain limited compared to the use of HDMI cables.
