JPJ: Beware of Fake SMS Scams Regarding Additional Requirements for Senior Citizens' Driving Licence Renewal

The public is advised not to be easily fooled by the spread of claims regarding additional requirements for driving licence renewal for senior citizens received via short message service (SMS). The fake messages have been detected to have occurred recently, asking individuals aged 60 and above to undergo a competency and health assessment, before renewing their Malaysian Driving Licence (LLM).

The claim was denied by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia through one of its updates on official social media. It then explained that neither the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) nor JPJ has placed any additional requirements on senior citizens for LMM renewal. In fact, the LMM renewal process for the group in question is still subject to the conditions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Malaysian Driving License (LMM) Renewal existing under the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

JPJ views seriously actions that deliberately spread information aimed at causing confusion and anxiety among many parties, and reminds the public to be wary of fraud spread through social media. Any information received should be carefully researched and further references can be found on the official JPJ Malaysia website.
