Malaysia places emphasis on the creation of smart cities based on the trend of increasing population in urban areas. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Digital Perak Corporation Holdings (DPCH) for the implementation of the smart city program in Ipoh City.
Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil in a statement said the MoU covers efforts to improve digital infrastructure, empower digital education and provide smart and green community facilities.
He also said in the same statement that the collaboration includes improving internet coverage in Perak to support the Perak Sejahtera Plan 2030 in preparing communication infrastructure plans at agreed development locations. In addition, MCMC also plays a role in providing technical advisory services to DPCH regarding digital infrastructure, networks, coverage, cybersecurity and online fraud prevention.
Also implemented under the collaboration is the exploration of collaboration related to e-commerce and information and communication technology training at the Perak National Information Dissemination Center (NADI) which targets local community involvement. All of the initiatives mentioned above are very important in the effort to make Ipoh a developed and efficient city.
