MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Chip Now Official With Eight Cortex-A725 CPU Cores



MediaTek yesterday announced the Dimensity 8400, a premium chip that offers powerful AI performance in its class. The use of large cores with all eight consisting of Arm Cortex-A725 CPUs at a speed of 3.25GHz is among the main focuses. At the same time, it is able to produce a 41% performance increase with 44% lower power consumption compared to the previous generation Dimensity 8300.


The Dimensity 8400 chip is also equipped with an Arm Mali-G720 GPU that offers 24% higher peak performance and 42% higher power efficiency. In addition to supporting MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) that optimizes game and application performance in real time. Also in the spotlight is the MediaTek NPU 880 which allows the Dimensity 8400 to support LLM/SLM/LMM so that users can take advantage of the latest Gen-AI applications such as translation, Natural Language Processing (NLP), contextual reply, AI recording and media generation.


This is further enhanced by the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) allowing AI agents to operate through a hybrid structure that incorporates cloud collaboration. Other specifications include a screen up to WQHD+ with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, Imagiq 1080 ISP supporting 320 MP sensors, LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.0-based storage, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.


The first device to use the Dimensity 8400 is the Redmi Turbo 4 which will be launched in the near future.
