Meta Plans Undersea Cable Around the World – Over 40,000 Kilometers

Meta is currently reportedly planning to develop an undersea cable around the world that connects all users, over 40,000 kilometers long. This project is expected to cost over $10 billion to implement.

Meta is expected to be the owner and user of the undersea cable. For your information, today, Meta uses around 10% of fixed line traffic, and 22% of mobile traffic worldwide through Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp applications. Development and investment in the artificial intelligence arena are seen to further increase the rate of traffic consumption by users worldwide, making Meta to develop their own infrastructure to accommodate internet traffic.

Meta is expected to share this plan in early 2025, and it may take years before it is fully operational.
