Meta is now sharing its plans to use nuclear energy to power its data centers. This is also in line with the offering of various artificial intelligence-based services that require higher energy and power than usual.
In addition to Meta, there are several other companies that have begun the process of switching to the use of nuclear energy, including Google, Microsoft and Amazon.
Meta plans to use a capacity of around 1-4 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear energy in the United States, and to that end, Meta has opened applications from relevant parties that can develop and offer such energy capacity. Meta plans this transition to begin in the early 2030s.
Meta itself is ready to focus on expanding Meta AI's offerings, and becoming the world's leading provider of artificial intelligence-based services. This will also require higher energy consumption, which will lead to a transition to nuclear-based energy.
