Microsoft is ready to make a number of investments in artificial intelligence firm, OpenAI – giving them access to the latest models, while also integrating OpenAI’s offerings into Bing and CoPilot, as well as various other Microsoft products.
However, under the initial agreement, both parties agreed that Microsoft would lose access to OpenAI’s latest technology when the firm reaches the AGI phase. The phase is widely debated, and each has a different definition.
Interestingly, according to a report today, Microsoft and OpenAI signed a joint agreement last year, saying that the AGI phase is reached when an AI system that generates $100 billion in profit is developed.
This seems to make reaching the AGI phase a very long way off, not to mention with OpenAI still losing billions of ringgit every year. According to previous reports, OpenAI said it would only reach the profit phase by 2029, and reaching $100 billion in profit may take many more years.
