Motorola smartphones may be banned from sale in the United States after the International Trade Commission (ITC) found that they infringed on Ericsson's 5G patents. Ericsson filed a complaint against Motorola's parent company Lenovo with the ITC last year.
The ITC is scheduled to issue a final decision on Ericsson's claims in April next year. In the complaint filed by Ericsson, they alleged that Motorola's Moto G, Edge and Razr series phones infringe on their patents related to wireless communications. Lenovo, however, denied the allegations made by Ericsson.
Ericsson also filed similar complaints in South America, and the UK. Ericsson previously won court orders to ban the sale of Lenovo smartphones in Brazil and Colombia. This has an impact on Motorola, which holds a large smartphone market in South America.
