NASA Probe Still Operating After Becoming Closest Object to the Sun

\

On Tuesday, NASA's Parker Solar Probe set a record as the fastest and closest man-made object ever to the sun. After three days, NASA today confirmed that the Parker Solar Probe did not suffer any damage despite being exposed to temperatures of up to 980 degrees Celsius.

It will send more detailed telemetry data back to Earth on January 1. The purpose of the probe being sent as close as possible to the sun is to study how the solar wind is generated and how material on the sun's surface is heated to temperatures of millions of degrees Celsius.

To approach the sun, this probe travels at a speed of up to 692,000 km/h. At this speed, the journey from Johor Bahru to Alor Setar can be done in just 3.89 seconds. Two more missions to approach the sun will be carried out by the Parker Solar Probe on March 22 and June 19, 2025.
