Over 3,000 Accesses to Piracy Websites Blocked by KPDN Until October 2024



The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) announced that 3,553 accesses to websites involving piracy have been blocked since 2021 until last October.


Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa said that based on the number, among those that have been blocked are websites that publish copyrighted works titled Syurga Itu Bukan Mudah, Jangan Lupa Janji and China Wrong Direction. In addition, there were 40 access restrictions imposed on websites that committed violations related to the sale of counterfeit goods or services online or physically which could lead to the enforcement of criminal offenses.


He explained that all such offences can be punished with a fine of not less than RM1 million or imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years under Sections 99 to Section 102 of the Trademark Act 2019. At the same time, the existing method used for these restrictions is through the Cyber ​​Copyright Enforcement (CyCORE) Program which has been implemented to date to combat digital film copyright infringement or digital film piracy on the internet medium.
