After more than a year of delay due to the launch of Apple Vision Pro, Samsung is expected to finally launch its augmented reality (XR) headset in Q3 2025, according to a report by Seoul Economic Daily. The headset, codenamed Project Moohan, is also said to be showcased during the Galaxy S25 launch next month.
Samsung is targeting sales of only 50,000 units throughout 2025 because its launch is limited at the initial stage. This is the same sales tactic as the Galaxy Ring which has yet to enter the Malaysian market despite being launched at the end of July.
With this small-scale sale, Samsung can gauge public interest first before adding more markets in the future. It is understood that the design of this headset is similar to the Meta Quest 3. This is to reduce sales costs after seeing what happened to the Vision Pro a few months after its launch.
Google will provide a special space for VR, AR and XR applications in the Play Store. Qualcomm is now releasing several special chips for headsets which are also used by Meta.
