Chinese tech company employees say their visa applications to attend the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next year have been denied by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. According to a report by SCMP, the visa applications were denied even though they were accompanied by documents showing they were invited by CES.
This is seen as another obstacle imposed by the US to curb the entry of technology from China. In recent years, around 30% of exhibitors have been Chinese companies. The restrictions imposed are seen as shooting themselves in the foot by the US because they will only affect CES.
After winning the presidential election last month, Donald Trump insisted that his administration would impose double tariffs on products imported from China, Mexico and Canada. Tariffs imposed on China have already been increased during the Biden administration with the entry of electric cars, solar panels, semiconductors, motherboards, PC chassis and graphics cards.
