YouTube Account Owners Now Have the Option to Allow Their Videos to Train AI Models

OpenAI has already launched Sora, a generative AI service that generates videos. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Sora, such as training models with YouTube videos without permission. It's not just Sora, as NVIDIA and Runway are also doing the same, although YouTube's CEO stated that this is wrong in terms of their platform's terms of use.

Recently, YouTube has released a feature to give permission if account owners want their content to be used to train AI.

In YouTube Studio, there is now a special section called Third-party training where if the account owner allows it - third-party AI companies that work with YouTube can use videos to train their models. However, if the video contains copyrighted content that is detected with Content ID - the rights holder of the video must also allow it.

YouTube's known AI partners so far are Sony, Warner and Universal, where they jointly developed the Dream Track feature. Google also has a video generation service called Veo 2, but they do not disclose which video sources are used to train their models. Hopefully, Google does not use YouTube video content to make Veo 2 a success without the permission of the YouTube account owner.

Will you allow YouTube to use content from your channel to train third-party AI services?
