The 2025 Consumer Electronics Show took place two weeks ago in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, and is one of the largest consumer technology events in the world. Many companies showed off new technologies and products that will be launched this year, and here is a list of 10 products that we think were the most exciting announcements that took place at the event.
1. HDMI 2.2 Standard
HDMI 2.2 is now official, announced by the HDMI Forum at CES 2025, and soon, we will be able to see 4K resolution screens with a refresh rate of 480Hz and 8K with a refresh rate of 120Hz.
This is done by increasing the data transmission rate through the plug and cable to 96Gbps, double what was offered by the previous HDMI 2.1.
With this new technology, it is seen that the time lag between video and audio output can also be reduced, with the HDMI Forum saying that new products with the HDMI 2.2 standard will begin to be introduced to the market in the first half of 2025.
2. Robot Vacuum With Hands Picking Up Trash
Robot vacuums can reduce the burden of sweeping up trash in the home every day. But not all robot vacuums have the ability to suck up larger-sized trash. At CES 2025, the Roborock Saros Z70 was launched with a “hand” that solves this issue.
The OmniGrip hand folds up on the top of the robot when not in use. It folds out to pick up large trash detected by the robot’s sensors and camera. According to Roborock, the OmniGrip can pick up trash up to 300 grams which is then thrown into the trash can. Owners can also use a smartphone app to control the OmniGrip remotely.
The Saros Z70 has been programmed to recognize up to 108 objects with owners being able to program another 50 objects in the home themselves. This robot vacuum is compatible with the Google Home, Apple Home and Amazon Alexa connected device ecosystem. The sales price has not yet been announced.
3. Flying Electric Motorcycle
There have been several prototypes of flying cars and taxis that we have displayed over the past half decade. It can be said that 99% of the prototypes produced did not become real products due to the lack of public response. So at CES 2025, the Rictor Skyrider X1 flying motorcycle was shown as a more practical mode of future transportation.
The Rictor Skyrider X1 can operate like a closed scooter when on the road that can carry 2 passengers. In flight mode, the four stalks for the quadrotor system will open with eight electric fans. According to Rictor, their electric-powered flying motorcycle can fly for up to 40 minutes at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
There are safety systems such as an emergency parachute and it can still fly even with one motor failing. The manufacturer also says that it has the ability to hover without human control. The manufacturer wants to offer this flying motorcycle in 2026 with a starting price of $60,000 (~RM270,000) each.
4. Frore Systems Airjet Mini Slim
Frore Systems may not be a name that is very familiar to consumers, but if you are like me, someone who always follows the development of computing technology, they are seen as the future of computer and server cooling.
At the CES 2025 event, they have shown their latest product, the Frore Systems Airjet Mini Slim, which is a cooling “fan” that uses electricity and vibrations to produce air and cool electronic components.
Frore Systems has tested the ability of this cooler in a Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge laptop to cool the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor chip. It can be shown that this cooler allows the CPU to use more electrical power, and a larger battery can also be loaded to ensure that it lasts longer.
This is seen as the best proof of concept right now that their cooling chip is the future of cooling components in today's thin and light laptops. Whether hardware manufacturers will adopt this technology is still unknown.
5. Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 With Rollable Screen
The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 with a rollable screen to become larger has now been officially launched at CES. As previously leaked images show, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 comes with a rollable 14″ OLED 2000 x 1600 pixel screen that can be extended upwards to increase the size to 16.7″ 2000 x 2350 pixels. This is done by pressing a special button or performing a waving action towards the webcam.
When opened, the screen area increases by 50% compared to the original, allowing two applications to be opened and stacked on top of each other for easy multitasking. The computer is equipped with up to Intel Core Ultra 7 chips, up to 32GB LPDDR5x RAM, up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 storage and a 66Whr battery that supports 66W charging.
There is only a USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The audio system consists of two 2W Harman/Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The webcam is 5MP with an infrared system that comes with a physical cover. All this is included in a 1.7 kilogram chassis. The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 will be available starting in June 2025 with a starting price of $3,499 (~RM 15,733) each.
6.AMD Ryzen AI Max
AMD was among several companies at CES 2025 that launched many new products, including the new AMD Ryzen 9000X3D models, the AMD Ryzen Z2 series of chips and the AMD Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards.
However, one product that really caught my attention was their latest APU under the AMD Ryzen AI Max series which combines the CPU and GPU in a single chipset under the code name Strix Halo. In short, this processor chip is built for premium gaming laptops that want a thin and light design.
Laptops powered by this processor chip can come with a built-in memory of 128 to 192GB of memory, and some of that memory can be used as VRAM for the graphics part of this laptop.
It is not the first time that AMD has built such a powerful APU, but it is arguably the first time that AMD has come up with an all-in-one solution that can compete with the most powerful gaming laptops on the market today.
7. Komatsu’s Electric Self-Propelled Bulldozer Can Operate Undersea
Electric vehicles (EVs) and electric motorcycles are now the norm in Malaysia, aided by various government initiatives to support their use. But there is also a demand for electric machinery for more sustainable construction projects. At CES, Komatsu is showing off a prototype electric bulldozer that can not only operate self-propelled but also undersea.
According to Komatsu, each of these electric bulldozers is equipped with a 450 kWh battery that allows it to operate for up to six hours. Recharging time is around 4 hours. At present, each bulldozer can operate up to a depth of 7 meters under the water surface. There are plans to allow it to operate up to a depth of 50 meters. The limit lies in the length of the antenna because GPS systems do not operate under the water surface.
Why is the underwater bulldozer built by Komastu? Because they have been producing bulldozers with dual-purpose capabilities since the 1970s to meet the construction needs of coastal construction projects to reduce the impact of waves, to monitor the depth of rivers and beaches. This bulldozer will be shown again at Expo 2025 in Osaka next April.
8.ASUS ROG Flow Z13
Speaking of the AMD Ryzen AI Max CPU, the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 will be updated after a two-year hiatus. It is one of the laptops announced by ASUS at the CES 2025 event, and in my opinion, the most interesting product they showed.
This laptop comes with a 13-inch ROG Nebula OLED screen display with a 2.5K resolution and a 180Hz refresh rate. It is powered by an AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 processor chip that comes with 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, along with a built-in Radeon 8060S GPU.
In terms of memory and storage offerings, this tablet will come with 128GB of LPDDR5X memory and 2TB of storage. It is also loaded with a 70Wh battery for several hours of endurance.
9.Lenovo Legion Go S
Lenovo is another computer brand that has shown off several new products at CES 2025, and among them are two PC consoles, namely the Lenovo Legion Go which is updated with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor chip, and the other is the Lenovo Legion Go S which is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip.
In terms of design, the Legion Go S is seen to be very similar to another PC console from another brand, namely the ASUS ROG Ally. It is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor chip and is loaded with an 8-inch screen display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The uniqueness of this console comes through its operating system support, where it will not only come with a model that runs the Microsoft Windows 11 operating system like many other PC consoles, but also Valve's Steam OS which was previously only shown on the Steam Deck console.
Lenovo Malaysia also confirmed that this console will arrive in the local market in February 2025 and will be sold at a price of RM3299.
10.SteamOS Will Support Third-Party Consoles
Speaking of SteamOS, Valve, the company behind the Steam Deck console, the SteamOS operating system and the Steam digital game sales platform, has announced that they will open the operating system to third-party PC consoles, such as the Lenovo Legion Go, ASUS ROG Ally, MSI Claw and so on.
The advantage of SteamOS over Windows is better controller support because it was developed for mobile consoles. In addition, based on the battery usage experience, it is also better when compared to consoles using Windows 11.
Valve says that Beta testing will open as early as next March before the Lenovo Legion Go S is launched in May. The list of third-party consoles that can download SteamOS has not yet been announced but Valve says that the experience provided is comparable to a Steam Deck.
11. Acer Nitro Blaze 8 and Nitro Blaze 11
Acer has shown off its own PC console offering, the Acer Nitro Blaze 7 at the IFA 2024 event that took place in October last year. At CES 2025, they have shown off two more new Acer Nitro Blaze models, and this time they come with two display size offerings, namely 8.8 and 10.95 inches.
Both consoles are also powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor chip and are loaded with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and 2TB of SSD storage to allow users to load many games into them.
One uniqueness shown on the Acer Nitro Blaze 11 in particular is that it comes with the ability to detach game controllers such as the Nintendo Switch and Lenovo Legion Go, and has a stand that allows users to set up this console for easier use.
12.NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000
The launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000 series of graphics cards is a launch that many enthusiasts and PC gaming builders have been eagerly awaiting. At CES 2025, they have shown off four graphics cards in the series, including the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070.
These graphics cards use the latest Blackwell processing chip and GDDR7 memory that allows users to play modern games at a combination of resolutions, refresh rates and high settings without any problems.
Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA has said that specifically for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card, it shows frame rate performance similar to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card, which is the most powerful graphics card of the last generation with the help of their latest DLSS 4 frame generation technology that will arrive specifically for this series of graphics cards.
More interestingly, a number of laptop makers such as ASUS, Acer, MSI and others have also shown laptops powered by this latest NVIDIA processing chip for laptops, although the announcement is not expected to come until the middle of this year.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards for desktop computers are expected to arrive in the global market by the end of January.
13. Dell Updates Product Branding Like Apple
Dell, a computer manufacturer brand known for offering their laptop series that appear through various series such as Dell XPS, Inspiron, Latitude, Precision and so on for various categories of users.
At the CES 2025 event, Dell made a big announcement about the branding of these laptop models, by replacing them with names such as Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max which are very similar to the branding of Apple iPhone devices.
Dell is for products offered for work, education and gaming. Dell Pro is for professional productivity users. Finally, Dell Pro Max is a product that offers maximum performance. Each brand then has three price levels namely Base, Plus and Premium.
This rebranding is said to make it easier for users to choose the product that is most suitable for them, but for those of us who are already familiar with branding like Dell XPS, the change to models like Dell Pro Max Premium for example may feel a little awkward at first.
14. NVIDIA Project DIGITS – Mini AI Supercomputer Priced Below RM14,000
Since the beginning of computing history, supercomputers have only been owned by government institutions or private companies that could afford equipment that cost tens of millions. This has made access to training artificial intelligence (AI) models beyond the reach of most developers. Today NVIDIA announced Project DIGITS, which they say is the most affordable AI training supercomputer on the market.
Each Project DIGITS supercomputer is equipped with a GB10 Grace Blackwell processor chip paired with 128GB of memory and up to 4TB of NVMe storage. The GB10 Grace Blackwell chip has 1 petaflop of AI processing power, allowing it to train AI models with 200 billion parameters. If a larger model needs to be trained, two Project DIGITS units can be connected using NVIDIA ConnectX.
At first glance, Project DIGITS looks like a mini computer about the size of a Mac Mini. The operating system used is the Linux-based NVIDIA DGX OS. NVIDIA Project DIGITS will be available in May for $3,000 (~RM 13,462).
15. Razer Project AVA – AI That Can Provide Assistance During Video Game Sessions
Razer used the CES 2025 stage to show off another of their concepts. With artificial intelligence (AI) being the hottest feature at the moment, Project AVA was announced as being able to provide assistance during video game sessions in real time.
Project AVA aims to be an assistant that gives players the best advice on what to do next based on analysis of previous gameplay sessions. In the video above, AVA gives advice on giving instructions to teammates in an FPS game and tells them the best tactics to defeat enemies in Black Myth: Wukong.
The AVA AI was trained using gameplay data from Team Razer esports athletes. The assistance can be provided in the form of audio, text chat, and overlays on top of the game being played. At this point, Project AVA is still a concept, but Razer plans to offer it as Beta software in the future.
