40 Immigration QR Code Scanning Lanes to Open at KLIA T1 and T2 This Month

The departure and arrival process at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will be faster with the introduction of 40 QR scanning lanes this month. According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, these lanes will only be opened for Malaysians as an alternative to the current passport scanning lanes.

The immigration QR code scanning will take 5-7 seconds compared to the passport scanning system which takes up to 25 seconds. The QR code system will start being tested this month to see its effectiveness in reducing congestion, especially during festive holidays and peak hours.

Although the QR scanning lanes have been opened, people will still need to carry their passports to travel. At the same time, the manual immigration check counters and passport scanning lanes will still operate as usual.
