AMD Ryzen AI Max APU Series Introduced – Combining Powerful CPU and GPU Performance in One Package

If you’re looking for a powerful laptop that comes in a thin and light design, but has the performance of a laptop with a larger CPU and graphics card combination, AMD has recently introduced their latest APU processor chip, the AMD Ryzen AI Max which comes with the code name Strix Halo.

In this series of processor chips, AMD is showing four APU models including the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, AMD Ryzen AI Max 390, AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 and AMD Ryzen AI Max 380.

All of these APU processing chips use the latest ZEN 5 CPU cores, and are combined with the new RDNA 3.5 graphics processing chip. Depending on the model, these APUs come with 16 physical cores and 32 power threads, up to 6 cores and 12 threads, and 40 CUs or 16 CUs.

This is the second time AMD has launched this type of CPU, and this time, the company seems to have plans to show off more laptops using this APU.

AMD says that depending on the APU configuration used, as well as the amount of memory available in a laptop, the performance of this APU is seen to be comparable to the most powerful gaming laptops on the market today.

For example, the ASUS ROG Z Flow 13 laptop will use two of these APU offerings, and will be loaded with 128GB of LPDDR5X memory, and the performance of the GPU component alone will be able to match a laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card.

AMD says that these AMD Ryzen AI Max processing chips will begin to be offered to laptop builders in the first and second quarters of this year, depending on the model you want to use.
