ASUS BTF 2.0 Specification Supports Simultaneous Wireless and 12V-2×6 Cable GPU Connection

ASUS introduced a direct power connection pin from the GPU to the motherboard called Back to The Future (BTF) last year. Through it, the GC-HPWR connection pin was introduced to allow the GPU to be directly connected to the motherboard without a wireless connection by placing it behind the PCIe X16 port. But this caused issues because buyers also had to upgrade the motherboard to support the new GPU which no longer came with the standard 12V-2×6 power pin.

But according to a report by Hardware Luxx, ASUS has announced a new BTF 2.0 specification that allows GPUs to support GC-HPWR and 12V-2×6 connections simultaneously. On GPUs that support BTF 2.0, an adapter can be connected to enable installation using GC-HPWR.

If not needed, the adapter can be removed and the 12V-2×6 power cable connection can be used. This gives GPU buyers the choice of using either connection. In the BTF 2.0 suit report supports GC-HPWR power connections up to 10000W.

The BTF connection was developed by ASUS to resolve the issue of the 12VHPWR plastic power cable burning on the RTX 4000 series GPUs due to excessive power input.
