China: Takeovers Must Be Decided by Companies

TikTok has resumed operations in the United States today, and in parallel with that, Donald Trump also proposed that 50% of its ownership be sold to a local company. In parallel, for the first time, the Chinese government also issued an official statement regarding the situation involving TikTok.

According to China, any decision involving the takeover of a company must be decided independently by a company, and based on the law. The decision made must be based on the principles of its own market.

The latest statement from the Chinese side is seen as a little softer than before, which said that they would prevent any forced sale involving TikTok – in addition to also making legislation that prevents the sale of algorithms outside of China. This statement by the Chinese authorities also indicates that they do not agree with the government's coercion to sell, and that any sale must follow the market.

In addition, the WSJ also shared that the founders of TikTok and Elon Musk have met, which may facilitate solving the problems faced by TikTok. Elon Musk himself has a large market for Tesla in China, and certainly does not want the market to be affected there, and it is said that he may facilitate any transactions if necessary.
