DeepSeek Launches Janus-Pro-7B Model That Can Generate Images

DeepSeek is the name of a Chinese company that is currently shaking up the world of artificial intelligence (AI) because they claim to have successfully trained their AI models at a cost that is thousands of times lower using less powerful hardware due to US technology barriers. After DeepSeek R1 was launched last December, today they have launched the Janus-Pro-7B model that can generate and understand the images it sees.

Janus-Pro-7B is also said to have higher capabilities than DALL-E by OpenAI and Stable Diffusion by Stable Diffusion. This image-generating ability is also matched with the ability to understand what is seen, allowing it to be used in robots that perform automation processes in factories. The latest Janus-Pro-7B model can be accessed via DeepSeek's GitHub page today.

The strength of China's manufacturing industry lies in lower costs on a larger scale that is difficult for other countries to match. Now it seems that the same capabilities are also being used by China in the development of local AI. This is the main reason why the United States is increasingly restricting access to high-powered CPUs and GPUs to countries that are not close allies to ensure their supremacy in AI is not threatened.
