The Walt Disney Company will continue to develop their Disney+ application, to ensure that users can enjoy the best content viewing experience. Right now on television, Disney+ is ready to support 4K Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced. In the future, they will also bring HDR10+ support.
At the CES 2025 event, Marc Finer from Communication Research Inc., the institution that recognizes and manages HDR10+ technology, announced that this support will be brought to Disney+. HDR10+ is an alternative technology to Dolby Atmos that is open source.
With this support, televisions that do not have Dolby Vision but support HDR displays can take advantage of this feature. Content with HDR10+ offers better brightness, greater contrast and is supported on over 13,000 devices including the Apple TV 4K.
At the moment, it is still not clear which content will support HDR10+ displays and whether it will be affected only by Disney+ Hotstar or limited to Disney+ only. Let's wait and see.
