Donald Trump Considers Postponing TikTok Ban for Up to 90 Days

Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20. As president, he can issue executive orders and among the first orders he will issue may be to postpone the TikTok ban for between 60 and 90 days. According to a Washington Post report, Trump is considering extending the TikTok sales period issued by the Biden administration in March last year.

He has previously been quoted as saying that he does not want TikTok to be banned as he used it successfully during his campaign. Several consortiums in the United States have expressed their desire to buy TikTok. The issue here is that Bytedance has no plans to sell TikTok and is using court channels to overturn President Biden's order.

On January 19, TikTok will block access to the application to users in the United States. The application will also be removed from the Play Store and App Store to comply with government orders. With the ban date approaching, American TikTok users have been migrating to alternative applications such as Xiaohongshu and Lemon8 since last weekend.
