This week has been a week of looking for alternatives to existing social media platforms. Half a million TikTok users in the US migrated to Xiaohongshu before the app was shut down. Now there is an alternative to Instagram that uses the Bluesky AT protocol.
Flashes was developed by Sebastian Vogelsang who wanted to bring back the early Instagram experience. He used the AT protocol to only display images from Bluesky in the Flashes app. Because of this platform sharing, images from Bluesky will appear in Flashes and images from Flashes will also automatically display in Bluesky.
Flashes is still in development and will start beta testing next week. For those who have already migrated to Bluesky, now you have a reason to migrate to Flashes and leave the Meta ecosystem.
